NYC Sun 'n' Bronze Bronzing Powder

I saw these at WalMart and couldn't resist. They were about $4.50 each for 12g and I knew they'd be great to use as eyeshadows. They're sold and advertised as bronzers, but as I already have medium-tan skin, I don't use it that often.

Hamptons Radiance, Coney Island Glow, Montauk Bronze, Fire Island Tan

Using these as eyeshadows:

If you're into nude/natural eyeshadows, these are perfect. They have the tiniest amount of shimmer, but they're mostly matte. Each bronzer has a great mix of light and dark shades of brown.

My favourite is Coney Island Glow because it has a very light shade, a medium one and a dark one. Hamptons Radiance is the same, except the medium shade is pink, while Fire Island Tan and Montauk Bronze have all medium shades.

Definitely use a primer or base with these so that they won't crease.

Using these as bronzers:

Fire Island Tan, while dark-looking in the pan, actually applies a lot lighter and when blended all together, will disappear on medium-tan skin tones. It would be good to use if you have light-medium skin. If you're darker, Montauk Bronze shows up dark when all the colours are blended together.

If you're lighter in skin tone, Coney Island Glow and Hamptons Radiance may work best as they contain lighter colours. The pink shows up in Hamptons Radiance when all the colours blend, while Coney Island Glow mixes into a light golden-bronze colour.

You can definitely build these bronzing powders to be darker, or use a small amount if you want just a touch of bronze.

NYC City Duet Eye Shadows

N.Y.C. (New York Color) is one of those 'hit and miss' brands that have some really good products and really bad ones. They're also a brand that has improved greatly within the past few years.

When I saw these duos, I wasn't really drawn to them. It was only until Rexall (Canadian Drug Store) had a sale on the entire NYC line that I decided I would give them a try. I bought each of these for $1.29 during the sale, but regularly they are anywhere between $2-4, depending on where you go.

Back of the packaging

Covering the eyeshadows is a piece of clear plastic which acts as a tray for the sponge tip applicator. It also indicates the suggested placement of each colour.

I think these eyeshadows are great. Not only are they soft and pigmented, but they're also completely matte and create little fall out.

I would suggest wearing these over some sort of base (in addition to using a primer) to help intensify the colours and prevent them from fading.

Out of the 5 duos, I'm least impressed with the black and white one, pigmentation-wise.

I think the plastic cover on the inside is unnecessary, but I understand the reasoning behind it. It's meant to keep the eyeshadow from spilling out everywhere in the event that they shatter. It's could also be meant to keep out moisture and to label the suggested area of application for each colour. Wet n Wild got around that by stamping the single word directions into the eyeshadow itself, but in NYC's case, they stamped the brand name.

I recommend these if you're look for good quality, affordable matte eyeshadows.
