I wore Earth Taupe today and it wore really well! I didn't use a primer and after applying it to my eyelids using my finger, it dried almost to a powder finish. I got a few hours of crease-free wear before I noticed a bit of creasing. These cream eyeshadows are completely matte and easy to apply.

These gel eyeliners will set after about a minute (which is great in case you make a mistake!) and come in 12 different colours. Tiffany sent me these three which I was eager to try out. I found that the consistency of Mermaid and Midnight were a bit dry but still relatively easy to work with. Poison Apple has a great consistency and applies evenly and opaque. All three blend easily but Mermaid and Midnight may need to be applied several times to get them opaque.

Semi-Matte Lip Color in Hibiscus

Hibiscus is a bright pinky-coral colour with no shimmer. This is what makes it 'semi-matte'. It does have a bit of a glossy finish to it, but otherwise can come across as matte. It applies smoothly and has a pleasant vanilla scent.

These Restorative Lip Colors are just like the ones I have reviewed a few weeks ago. They contain some great nourishing ingredients like Vitamin E, Jojoba oil and Shea butter. Islander is a soft pink colour with a hint of berry while South of France is like Islander, but with more of a berry tint to it.  Both contain some shimmer and have a vanilla scent.

This Lip Repair has the same nourishing ingredients as the Lip Colors, but not so much colour. This is great if you want a lip balm that won't provide any colour to your lips. When applied, it looks like you're wearing a bit of lip gloss. It doesn't feel sticky at all but will make your lips feel soft and smooth.

Lip Colors from Performance Colors

I received these samples from Tiffany at Performance Colors to test and review. Performance Colors is an Etsy store which also carries ColorPots (cream eyeshadows) that I reviewed last summer.

These are very pigmented and similar to the Revlon Lip Butters that came out several months ago.

They can act either as a tinted lip balm (when used lightly), or a lipstick when applied a bit heavier. This means that they are buildable so you can achieve as much or as little colour as you'd like. 

They are moisturizing and have a nice vanilla scent. They are quite close in texture to the Revlon Lip Butters and come in a wide range of colours.

Performance Colors Lid Primer Review

Performance Colors is an Etsy store which sells independently made makeup products for affordable prices. You may have read my reviews of the Performance Colors' ColorPots which are cream eyeshadows.

I recently made an order with Performance Colors and with it came some samples that Tiffany (the store owner) was kind enough to include. 

One of those samples was a full-size Lid Primer ($3.50), shown below:

This Lid Primer sells for $3.50 USD and comes in a 5g jar. This photo is more true to its colour than the one below.

 I've been using this primer ever since I received it a few weeks ago.

It feels and looks like a concealer when you apply it. I just use my finger and dab it onto my eyelids before I apply eyeshadow. 

The actual colour of this product is a light beige colour. It is similar to MAC's Paint Pot in Painterly, but the Lid Primer is more orange in colour. This photo shows it to be a lot darker than it actually is.

It reminds me of the NYX Eyeshadow Base in Skin Tone, however, the Lid Primer isn't as creamy. The problem I had with the NYX one is that it was too creamy and would therefore crease within a few hours. If I applied just a thin layer, it wouldn't be enough for my eyeshadow to adhere to.

I sometimes have the same problem with other primers like the Urban Decay Primer Potion or Too Faced Shadow Insurance. If I apply enough to thinly coat my eyelid, it creases within a few hours. The same thing happens when I apply a very small amount, simply because the amount was not enough.

The Performance Colors Lid Primer is creamy enough that I can work with it, but not too creamy that it creases easily. It's also thick enough that I'm able to apply a thin layer so enough product gets onto my eyelids for it to be effective.

What I love the most about this primer is that it's very close to the colour of my skin. I'm naturally medium-tan in skin tone so this works perfectly for me. I have MAC's Painterly and it's just too pink and makes my skin look ashy.

Because it comes in a jar, make sure you use clean hands when using it, or use a clean brush.

This Lid Primer is only $3.50. That is extremely reasonable for an eyeshadow primer that works! 

I usually get about 8+ hours of wear before I start to notice some creasing. I even took a nap today and my eyeshadow didn't budge! I'm 10 hours in right now and I've just noticed some creasing.

I recommend this primer if you have oily lids and a warm skin tone.

New Shades of ColorPots from Performance Colors!

Towards the end of this past summer, I posted a review of the ColorPots cream eyeshadows from an Etsy store called Performance Colors.

At the time, there were 33 colours to choose from, and recently Performance Colors has released 5 more colours! I purchased all 5 of these colours in sample sizes for $5 USD.

The samples come in clam shell containers, about the size of a Toonie ($2 Canadian coin)

These are what the back of the samples look like. I like that they're clear so you can see the colour. A label has also been added with the name of the ColorPot.

Winter Palace
This photo has picked up mainly the brown in this colour, but in person it is more pink than brown. The colour is more accurate in the swatches photographed at the end of this post.

Flush
A sheer baby pink colour.

Aces
A silver colour.

Emerald City
A deep emerald green.

Underworld
An olive green colour that has a green-brown duochrome.

In the above photo, you can kind of see the green-brown duochrome of Underworld. Winter Palace was washed out by the flash, but that was the fault of my camera. A more accurate representation of its colour is the swatch in the photo taken without flash.

My favourite colour out of these five is Emerald City. I've really been into emerald and deep green colours so this instantly caught my eye. It's also unique in that I haven't seen an emerald green cream eyeshadow before that is not only deep, but also quite green.

ColorPots are very pigmented and work as a primer to keep your eyeshadows from creasing. For maximum effect, try using an eyeshadow primer. Performance Colors has developed an eyeshadow primer, photographed below. Performance Colors was kind enough to send me this one to try out.

Performance Colors: ColorPots

Not too long ago, I did a comparison review in which I reviewed Buxom's cream eyeshadows and compared them to the Performance Colors ColorPots.

I loved the ColorPots so much that I asked Tiffany (the owner of Performance Colors) if I could purchase a sample size of every colour that she has developed so far so that I could try them out.

I've been using them for about a month now and the colours she has come up with are amazing! These cream eyeshadows make great bases, are very pigmented, and will prolong the wear of any eyeshadow that you pair them with. They also amplify the effect of your primer so that your eyeshadow will not crease for at least 10 hours (in my experience) and the colours will stay intense. They can also be worn on their own over a primer for a sheer and shimmery look.

She has a total of 33 colours, and they can be purchased from her store on Etsy. 

All 33 ColorPots! These are sample sizes and they each have the Performance Colors Label on the top and the bottom has the name of the colour on it. I like that the labels are clear so that you can see the colour of the eyeshadow inside!

The ColorPots (full-size) are about $5.00 U.S. ($5.19 Canadian as of Oct. 17, 2011) whereas the sample sizes (which are the size of all the ColorPots I'm reviewing) are $1.00 each and can be purchased in groups of 5.


*Etsy displays the price of each product in the currency of the country you live in. They are very good at keeping up with fluctuations in currency value, so if you are outside of the U.S., the price of each product may change day to day depending on its value.

All of the ColorPots are shimmery, while some have glitter. I'll address which ones have glitter, but keep in mind that with or without glitter, they are all shimmery :)

I've photographed the ColorPots by colour (as they appear in the container), and swatched them that way as well:

The first four colours are Cabernet, Crushed, Spanks and Babycakes.

 I chose to group these colours together because they are red/copper based. I really like Cabernet because it is a rich burgundy-plum colour. It is extremely pigmented and can be a great base for any red, copper or burgundy eyeshadow. It has some shimmer, but no glitter. Crushed is a coppery-bronze colour, also with no glitter, but it is shimmery. Spanks is medium copper colour and of the same finish as the first two. Babycakes looks slightly coppery in the container, but when swatched, it is more pink-toned and appears to have a small amount of very fine silver sparkle in it.

These three colours are gold-based and a lot lighter in colour than the previous four. They are just as pigmented, but the colours are lighter. Morocco is kind of an old gold colour with lots of shimmer. It is my favourite one to use, and also one of the first ColorPots I purchased! Champagne is true to its name. Its a kind of soft white-gold colour, also with a lot of shimmer. Goldilocks is a bright gold colour. You can also think of it as a shimmery yellow.

I grouped these five colours because they are green-based. Sugared Grape is a spring green colour with subtle, fine silver sparkle. A couple shades darker than Sugared Grape is Romeo which is a medium green with no glitter, but some shimmer. Silver Palms is a forest green, also with no glitter. Sage Sparkle is true to its name. It has some silver sparkle in it and is a light teal colour. Khaki is a combination of a dark green and brown. At first glance, it looks brown but in certain lights and up close, you can detect some of the green in it.

These five colours are blue-based. Plum Fairies is an iridescent purple-blue colour. It is more sheer than densely pigmented so it is good if you want something dark, but not opaque. Steel Orchid is richly pigmented with no glitter and is a blue-grey colour. Farrah is a lighter blue colour with some grey in it and some sparkle as well. Blue Frost is a very shimmery baby blue colour, and Cornflower (which is my favourite of all the blue ColorPots) is an extremely rich and pigmented bright blue. I recommend this colour if you like blue eyeshadows!

These colours are kind of teal-based or a mix of blue and green. Mermaid is a dark teal colour with no sparkle. Caribbean is a lighter version of Mermaid, which is good if you want a classic teal-grey colour. Seafoam is the lightest of the group and contains some glitter. My favourite of this group is Caribbean because it is not too dark and not too light.

I grouped these together because they looked more brown-based in the containers. However, after swatching them, some of them were a little different than they appeared. Raisin is a nice chocolate brown colour with a hint of sparkle. Empress was most surprising to me because in the container, it appeared to be a golden brown colour, but when used, it becomes a gold green colour. Toffee is kind of the same way. It looks like a gold brown colour but when used, it becomes a  coppery-brown colour. I was pleased when swatching these because, although I didn't intend on it, these are perfect colours for fall!

I recommend getting Raisin, Empress and Toffee if you're looking for great autumn/fall colours :)

My absolute favourite of these purple and pink ColorPots is Velvet Talker. It is a nice deep purple colour  with some very fine purple sparkle in it. Princess is a bright pastel purple with some light gold and silver sparkle in it. Perfection is half-way between baby pink and hot pink. It has some silver sparkle in it as well. Romance looks like a blend of Princess and Perfection, with the same sparkle. It can be a great colour to choose if you can't decide between Princess and Perfection!

These last six colours are white, grey or black-based.  Sparkles is a true white with some silver sparkle in it. Palladium is a light grey with silver sparkle as well. Sweetdreams is a light purple-grey colour, also with silver sparkle. Smog is a shimmery dark grey colour and Black Pearl is a few shades darker and closer to black. Oilslick is a blue-black that is sort of like Plum Fairies in that it has some iridescence. Out of these six colours, Palladium is my favourite because it can enhance taupe eyeshadows, which is one of my favourite colours to wear.

I hope this review was helpful! All of the ColorPots behave the same when worn over a primer and topped with an eyeshadow. They all have the same texture (though the ones without sparkle may be slightly more smooth) and they are all very pigmented!
