GOSH Cosmetics Giant Sun Powder

$25 at Shoppers Drug Mart

This Giant Sun Powder in 001 comes with 28g (1.0 oz US) of product and costs $25. In comparison to other brands: MAC Mineralize SkinFinishes come with 10g for $34 (CAD), Prestige Cosmetics Bronzing Powders come with 8g for $15 (CAD) and  Sleek MakeUP's Glo Face & Body Highlighters come with 8.2g for $10 (CAD).

This product comes with nearly triple the amount of product of ones similar to it. This makes it a great deal if you're looking for a glowing gold highlighter/bronzer/all-over-glow.

It comes with a large mirror on the inside. The packaging is bare and sleek, but can accumulate scratches very easily as shown in the first picture. 

This is a close-up of the colour of the sun powder. In real life, it leans a bit coppery, giving it an almost rose gold colour.

You can see the hints of copper in this photo of it swatched on my hand. The swatch on the left is a heavier swatch, while the one on the right is blended out. It definitely gives a great glow.

While this is a great multi-purpose product (highlighter, bronzer, eyeshadow) it only comes in one colour. Although this colour can probably work well on many skin tones, I wish they had more of a variety from which to choose.

I would recommend using a dense/stiff brush to apply this product because using a fluffy one will cause it to become flaky/powdery.

For the price, you can't go wrong. If you don't like using/having many products, this will definitely last you a very long time.  

GOSH Eyeshadows: Smokey Eyes Palette (Brown), Mono Eye Shadow (Brown)

Neutral and brown eyeshadows have been immensely popular recently. Urban Decay's Naked and Naked2 Palettes seem to be the epitome and most complete collection of neutral eyeshadows (according to many), however, there are many alternatives.

I own the Naked Palette and I use about 5 of the eyeshadows in the palette. The other ones I use from time to time, but they're not essential for me. 

I've come up with this combination from GOSH Cosmetics (a brand found at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada) that comes with dupes for colours that I use on a regular basis.

GOSH Smokey Eyes Palette (02 Brown)
$18 at Shoppers Drug Mart (8g/0.3 oz)

The palette comes with four shades of brown. The ones in the middle are very close to the colours Naked and Buck from the Naked palette which are two of the ones I use most often. The top shade is very close to Virgin from the Naked Palette and the dark brown is great for defining and/or using as eyeliner.

The price per eyeshadow in the GOSH palette is $4.50 ($18/4) and for the Naked Palette, it's  about $4.20 ($50/12). Although the GOSH palette is a bit more expensive per eyeshadow, there are 2g of product per eyeshadow as opposed to the 1.3g per eyeshadow in the Naked Palette, which means the GOSH palette is cheapest overall. 

Mono Eye Shadow (003 Brown)
$12 at Shoppers Drug Mart (1.7g/0.1 oz)

This mono eyeshadow in Brown is very similar to NYX's Golden Amber which is one of my all-time favourites. However, Brown is less intense. Golden Amber is very very pigmented with lots of gold sparkle. Brown is a tiny bit lighter in colour and has less sparkle. This makes it more subtle and 'wearable'. 

In the Naked Palette, it's closest dupe is Smog.

Golden Amber ranges in price from $3.75 online to up to $7.99 in stores (Canada), but NYX products are very difficult to come by in my experience (I've only come across one Rexall that carries this brand). NYX single eyeshadows come with 2.7g of product.

GOSH's Brown is $12 at Shoppers Drug Mart which is almost double the price of the NYX dupe and it only comes with 1.7g of product. However, you can use some of your Optimum points to take off $10 to make this eyeshadow only $2. GOSH is almost more widely available than NYX.

At most, this combination that I've come up with is $30 for a total of 9.7g of product, in comparison with the 5 eyeshadows that I use from the Naked Palette which total $21 for 6.5g of product.

GOSH therefore costs about $3.10 per gram of product, while Urban Decay costs about $3.25 per gram of product.

Not a huge difference, but if you do this type of math for other products you use, you'll be able to save some money and also purchase colours that you'll use rather than having  more than half of the colours sitting around being untouched.

Also, Shoppers Drug Mart is easier to access than Sephora (in most cases).

The quality of GOSH eyeshadows (when purchased separately and not part of a Holiday Set) are comparable to the matte Urban Decay eyeshadows. This is the only Mono Eye Shadow I've tried from GOSH (apart from the 2011 Holiday Set) and it's quite good as well.

GOSH Eye Shadow Collection: Holiday 2011 (on sale!)

I spotted this Eye Shadow Collection from GOSH at Shoppers Drug Mart for $9. It was on sale and left over from the Holiday 2011 sets. They also had a lip gloss set and a nail polish set. These might still be available at your local Shoppers Drug Mart if you're interested.

I think this was a good deal considering GOSH is a more expensive drugstore brand.

Since there are probably only a few of these sets left at Shoppers Drug Marts, I thought I would review these to give you an idea of what GOSH Holiday and Value Sets are like.

The quality of these eyeshadows is similar to the GOSH 22 Colour Palette which I reviewed a while ago.

They are soft and blendable, but not intensely pigmented. Though this is usually seen as a bad thing, it can be beneficial if you like wearing only a hint of colour.

Sets like these are great because each piece is cheaper than if you bought something similar on its own. This makes it great to split with a friend, or give them to your friends as gifts. After this review, I plan on sharing these with others :)

I hope GOSH comes out with something similar to this for the next holiday season, but I hope that the colours are more vibrant and unique!

GOSH Eye Shadow Palette: 22 Colours

I've been seeing this palette in the Shopper's Drug Mart flyer for weeks but could never find it in store. I saw it in the Boxing Day flyer (for 50% off) and figured I would try to find it again. I was lucky enough to find the last one in the store and I got it for $19.99. I'm not sure if this is still available but I thought I would post swatches in case future palettes are released (assuming they use the same formula in future palettes).

This is definitely one of those palettes that looks better in the advertisements (which goes for the majority of products in general). They kind of look like baked eyeshadows on the box, but they're just regular pressed eyeshadows that come in a variety of finishes. I find that the metallic eyeshadows are harder to work with while the matte and satin finish ones are the easiest and most pigmented.

The colours are hit and miss and I don't think they're of the same formula as other GOSH eyeshadows (like the singles and quads).

I do however like the colours in the third row. The dark matte brown is amazing as well as many of the other matte and satin finish ones. I wish that they were all amazing but this is rarely the case in larger palettes like these from more expensive brands.

GOSH Waterproof Eyeshadow and Quo Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil

Next in my Jumbo Eye Pencil Review Series are two brands which can be found at Shopper's Drug Mart in Canada.

GOSH and Quo are brands that I have reviewed before, and I purchased these on clearance for $2-4 each. I believe the GOSH pencils are still available, which the Quo ones may be discontinued.

I've been using the GOSH Waterproof Eyeshadows for a while, and though they aren't truly waterproof, they do hold up well throughout the day. The texture is very creamy and they are very richly pigmented. Regularly, they are $15 each, so at $4, I got a good deal!

Shopper's Drug Mart currently has many GOSH products at $7 each and you can find them wherever the clearance items are kept.

The next brand is Quo which is one of my favourite brands at Shopper's Drug Mart. Again, I purchased these on clearance, so I don't think they are sold anymore, but you may find some on clearance at your local Shopper's.

You can see from the swatches above that they are basically just a glitter cream eyeshadow. I don't really like glitter eyeshadows (especially if the base is clear, like with these). However, I think it's cool that it comes in pencil form and you don't need some sort of cosmetic glitter glue for it to adhere to your eye, or anywhere else on your body.

Of the three colours I purchased, I like Amber the most because although it does have glitter, its cream base is the same colour as the glitter. This is just my preference.

I would recommend the GOSH eyeshadows, but not the Quo ones!

GOSH: Trio Eye Shadow

This is my second review of a GOSH product (check out my first one here).

This trio is perfect if you want some really basic, matte shades. However, I think this trio is discontinued as I can't find this on their website and I purchased this on clearance at Shopper's Drug Mart. However, I hope that this review will help you decide if you want to try GOSH cosmetics in general, or just to give you an idea of what their matte eyeshadows are like.

Colour: TR2 Smoky

This trio is called TR2 Smoky, and on their website, the trios are labelled similarly (with a 'TR' then a number), but TR2 specifically is not listed. You can view the available colours here.

These matte shades are very pigmented and very matte, though if you look closely, you can see the smallest amount of shimmer has been added to the matte formula. However, I find the colours to be average and I don't think I would have bought this trio if it wasn't on sale. They are really nicely textured though and they apply very well. I like to use the tan shade as a blending colour if I'm using neutral shades.

Overall, it's a good palette, but the colours aren't anything special. I imagine other GOSH palettes would be nice too and are worth trying out if you've never tried GOSH cosmetics before, but I would only recommend similar palettes of theirs if the colours were unique, or if they offer colours you're looking for. The formula of the eyeshadows (at least in this palette) is great, however.

GOSH: Multicolour Blush (but I use it as an eyeshadow palette!)

I'm not sure if this brand is available in the U.S., but I've only seen it for sale at Shopper's Drug Mart in Canada. I bought it for about $20 and it seems like a lot, but this is a higher-end drug store brand and their products are usually very good for the money. This comes in two colour combinations, but this one in 51 Bronzie Pie was the only one in stock when I bought it.

Colour: 51 Bronze Pie

 I was attracted to this blush because it doesn't look like a blush at all. To me, it looks more like a bronzer, or an eyeshadow colour wheel. Bronze colours used as blush can create great looks, and some people prefer it, but I've been using this blush as an eyeshadow. You can see from the picture below that I've been using the gold/brown colour and the red/copper colour. I think this combination makes a great natural daytime look. I use the gold all over the lid and put a bit of the copper in the crease for some definition.

The colours look rich and pigmented, but because they are intended to be used as a blush/bronzer, they weren't developed to be rich and pigmented (as they are meant to be built up through layering). However, this is a perfect eyeshadow property if you want to achieve a natural yet shimmery look. This way, you get subtle colour and shimmer without it being too much.

Here are the swatches, and you can see what I mean by these colours not being as pigmented as they look (as they are intended to be used as a blush/bronzer).

The last colour on the left is all the colours blended together to give you an idea of what it would look like if you used it as a blush/bronzer, which is this product's intended use.

 I also mentioned that this brand (as far as I know) is available only at Shopper's Drug Mart in Canada (and I haven't heard of it being available in the U.S.). On the back of their packaging, it says "Made in Denmark" so this brand is likely available across Europe as well.

I decided to do a review on this product specifically (as opposed to my other GOSH products) because I think it's important to use your products for a variety of purposes, rather than the one that it is intended for. Most blushes and bronzers can also be used as eyeshadows (and vice versa), and if you're on a budget, you can get away with using a few products for a variety of purposes and still create different looks everyday. 

The possibilities are endless!

I recommend this product if you want to try out GOSH cosmetics, but if you have blushes and bronzers that you aren't using, try them out as eyeshadows!
